Hi, I'm Lucy 👋🏼

A gut-health obsessed nutritional therapy student at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, specialising in SIBO, IBS and Functional Dyspepsia and creator of the Brain, Body, Biome Method - a root-cause approach to optimising gut health.

High achiever, perfectionist, world traveller...

...and then it all went wrong.

I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) aged 14, given a prescription of Loperamide, and sent on my way. At the time, I didn’t think much about it - just another pill to get through the day. Doctors didn’t explain what IBS really meant, or how my diet and lifestyle might be linked, so I carried on as if nothing had changed.

Life continued with me popping tablets whenever symptoms flared, but giving no real consideration to what I was eating, how I was living, or how stress might be affecting my gut. I brushed it off, thinking this was just how things were, not realising that this would become the start of a much bigger journey with my health.

University Stress and the First Flare

When I went to university, everything spiralled. It was an extremely competitive, high stress environment, and I was burning the candle at both ends. I spent 4 years terrified of failure, and using junk food and alcohol as (terrible) coping strategies.

One morning I woke up with the most crippling upper abdominal pain. I was diagnosed with a UTI and given 4 weeks of strong antibiotics (ciprofloxacin) in total. The pain returned as soon as I stopped the antibiotics.

For 2 years I saw urologists, gastroenterologists, immunologists and infectious disease specialists, and had every test available - with no answers. It became clear my symptoms were linked to diet, which helped me manage things for a while, until…

2018 - My annus horribilis!

A series of incredibly stressful life events lead to the development of TMJ disorder (severe jaw pain), which doctors treated with Naproxen (a NSAID). Then all hell broke loose.

I was diagnosed with gastritis, and then prescribed a PPI. After that, I developed SIBO, Functional Dyspepsia, severe anxiety, histamine intolerance, Rosacea, chronic itching (diagnosed as MCAS), and other MCAS symptoms.

Conventional medicines made things worse (H2 blockers, antihistamines), and my health kept deteriorating. At my worst, I was down to just 3 safe foods.

Discovering Nutritional Therapy

That’s when I discovered the world of nutritional therapy.

It didn’t click right away. I knew I needed a different approach but found it hard to let go of the 'miracle pill' mentality. Eventually, I worked with a brilliant practitioner who helped me understand my many root causes.

Through this, I also saw how flawed the holistic SIBO and gut health space was - so much conflicting information online, and so few practical frameworks. I realised that gut healing requires an individualised approach and a step-by-step method to work through root causes in the right order.

The birth of The Gut Remedy

So, The Gut Remedy was born!

It’s where I combine my lived experience with my training in nutritional therapy to support others with IBS, SIBO and Functional Dyspepsia.

And me? I’m finally starting to live my best life after 8 years of struggle, and I’m incredibly excited to share my Brain, Body, Biome approach, the only gut health framework that combines structured brain retraining with physical interventions to build resilience and support food freedom, backed by research.
